EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Sr Manufacturing Engineer with the Hughes Network Services Manufacturing division in Germantown, MD.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The primary challenge involves evaluating, optimizing, and modernizing complex manufacturing workflows and multi-shift production operations across Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Box Build departments. Success relies on eliminating operational inefficiencies through Lean principles, conducting rigorous Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews, and integrating advanced automation technologies to elevate overall factory throughput.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

  • Evaluate and optimize existing manufacturing processes using Lean methodologies to increase overall production output
  • Drive multi-shift production schedules, conduct system tests, and perform Root Cause Analysis to maintain strict quality standards
  • Collaborate with equipment designers, managers, and supervisors to establish cost-effective workflows for new product launches
  • Perform comprehensive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and map out detailed equipment layouts for production environments
  • Research, procure, and integrate modern manufacturing tech and AI-assisted predictive maintenance tools to elevate operational efficiency

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Core Skills and Competencies (What you'll bring):

  • Extensive expertise in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes, Box Build workflows, and assembly layout design
  • Advanced mastery of Lean manufacturing principles, Root Cause Analysis, and Six Sigma problem-solving methodologies
  • Strong ability to lead cross-departmental teams and manage project timelines for production operations
  • Practical AI Application literacy to leverage predictive analytics and smart automation in smart factory environments
  • High proficiency in evaluating equipment capabilities, conducting DFM reviews, and driving continuous process improvements

Additional Qualifications:

  • Practical experience utilizing SAP enterprise software within a manufacturing setting
  • Superior written and verbal communication capabilities
  • Prior engineering experience working directly in an electronics manufacturing facility

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience); or a Master's degree in a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum Experience: 3+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 3 years of experience with:
    • Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Box Build manufacturing processes
    • Six Sigma methodologies with a minimum of a Green Belt certification
    • Process layout design, DFM reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives

Must be a U.S. Person as position requires access to U.S. export restricted materials.
