Job Duties and Responsibilities

In this critical role on the AI and Data Governance team, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of internal AI and data governance policies, standards, and procedures that support the ethical and effective deployment of Artificial Intelligence across all EchoStar lines of business.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

• Actionable Policy Drafting & Lifecycle Management: Supports governance design and execution through decision-to-data mapping, documentation, and analysis. Owns drafting, reviewing, and updating governance policies, standards, and procedures. Moves beyond high-level statements (e.g., ensure fairness and quality) to write specific, actionable guidelines (e.g., utilize X methodology to test for Y quality or parity).
• Lifecycle Management: Maintains the Dictionary of Policies, Classifications and Standards, ensuring all documentation is version-controlled, up-to-date, and easily accessible to the business.
• Regulatory Translation & Operationalization: Collaborates with EchoStar’s Legal, Risk, and other stakeholders teams, and the Senior Manager, to interpret emerging frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, Colorado Automated Decision-Making Technology Act, EU AI Act). Determines how these regulations convert into clear checklists and standards, removing ambiguity for the EchoStar business units, stakeholders and related deliverers/builders.
• Feasibility Testing & Stakeholder Alignment: Prevents policy bloat by actively road-testing new standards with EchoStar business units, stakeholders and related deliverers/builders such as engineering, data science, and product teams before they are finalized.  If a policy is theoretical but effectively impossible to implement, refining until it is actionable.
• Standardization for Measurement: Creates the templates, decision trees, and "How-To" guides that support the policies.  Ensures that standards are scored and measurable by governance reporting.
• Forward Deployment: Acts as the supporting operational link between Governance Leadership and Forward Deployed Expertise (FDE) teams, ensuring clear expectations, handoffs, maintaining momentum.

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Core Skills and Competencies (What you’ll bring):

• Experience working with AI tools for automation and productivity.
• Proven ability to create policies, standards and procedures that are logical, version-controlled, and easy for non-legal teams to navigate.
• Ability to identify the specific metadata, logging requirements, or testing protocols required to align governance with regulatory requirements.
• Ability to influence without authority; a proven track record of acting as the "middle person" between business, risk, and technical execution teams, refining policies until they are both compliant and frictionless.
• Deep familiarity with standardized governance frameworks such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Policy, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering
• 4 years of experience in AI/Data Governance, Technical Policy, Process Engineering, or Compliance
• NIST AI Risk Management Framework
• Decision-to-data mapping and policy drafting

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
