Job Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview, which may include a live whiteboarding or technical assessment session.

This role addresses the complexities of a high-scale Ecommerce environment where performance optimization and platform stability are critical. The position solves challenges related to GraphQL over-fetching, database bottlenecks, cache management, and modernizing legacy codebases to event-driven architectures. Additionally, this role drives the technical execution of long-term AI initiatives and technical debt mitigation to accelerate high-quality feature delivery across a global platform.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives)

• Modernize legacy codebases by transitioning monolith components to an event-driven architecture utilizing Node.js and modern PHP patterns

• Optimize global site performance by resolving database bottlenecks, refining SQL operations, and implementing cache invalidation strategies to meet team uptime OKRs

• Deliver on-platform solutions that maintain a clean separation of concerns by decoupling business logic from presentation layers and GraphQL resolvers

• Lead and execute long-term AI projects, incorporating AI-powered coding assistants and generative tools into core development workflows

• Mitigate production risks through active monitoring, automated CI/CD pipeline validation, and endurance load testing that surfaces resource leaks prior to deployment

• Foster engineering standards through technical mentorship of junior engineers and guidance of offshore development teams

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Core Skills and Competencies (What You'll Bring)

• Extensive expertise in Object-Oriented Programming, Node.js, and event-driven architecture to modernize legacy codebases into modular, maintainable systems

• Advanced proficiency in GraphQL and RESTful API optimization to ensure high-speed data retrieval and minimal client-side overhead

• Strong command of cloud-based development environments, containerization using Docker, and Git branching strategies

• AI application expertise, including the ability to integrate generative AI tools for long-term project initiatives, code refactoring, and test automation

• Proven problem-solving and diagnostic skills required to resolve high-latency transaction issues, database lockups, and infrastructure exhaustion in production environments

Additional Qualifications

• Experience with RabbitMQ, Redis, and OpenSearch/Elasticsearch

• Familiarity with Ping Identity, Recurly, and Vertex integrations

• Background in Agile/Scrum methodologies and technical requirement elaboration

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or a comparable field

• Minimum Experience: 5 years of experience in PHP and Node.js software application development

• Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 5 years of experience with:

  • JavaScript & Node.js

  • PHP 8.x (specifically 8.2/8.3)

  • MySQL/SQL optimization and database schema management

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
